Bridges

Dental bridges can be a wonderfully satisfying solution to the problems presented by a missing tooth or teeth. A bridge literally bridges the gap left by missing teeth by placing pontics — custom-made false teeth — between two crowns that are placed on either side of the gap. Filling in a gap with a bridge offers several advantages, including a full smile and an improved ability to speak, chew, and bite.

Dr. Laura Hannon uses either the traditional or the cantilever bridge. The traditional dental bridge is the most commonly used variety and is created by placing a dental crown on both sides of the gap and anchoring a false tooth in between. The cantilever bridge is used when teeth are present on only one side of the gap; the replacement tooth is fused to two dental crowns that are placed on the two closest teeth.

She can also use an aesthetic zirconium framework bridge that is both strong and conservative. This type of bridge replaces the missing tooth with a porcelain tooth that is bonded to zirconium wings.

Dr. Hannon understands how much bridges can mean to her patients’ perceptions of their own smiles and is happy to play a part in restoring their self-confidence. Schedule an initial consultation today if you would like to learn more about dental bridges.

Veneers

Veneers are popular cosmetic dentistry treatments that are made of very thin shells of porcelain and are permanently bonded to the front of the teeth. Veneers can cover visible stains and chips and even fill gaps between teeth. The porcelain veneers are matched as closely as possible to the rest of the existing teeth to create a natural, aesthetically pleasing smile that you can be proud to show off.

As the veneers are made of an extremely thin material that is designed to fit naturally in the mouth, they are both comfortable and subtle. Though they are thin, veneers become very strong, durable, and resistant to damage when they are bonded to the teeth. The texture of porcelain also makes it resistant to staining agents like coffee, tea, and tobacco. If you would like to find out if veneers are a good option for you, please schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Hannon.

Crowns

When the surface of the tooth is damaged, dental crowns can be a highly effective treatment. Age, decay, excessive grinding, and an improper bite can result in cracked, worn down, and broken teeth. Crowns can remedy these problems by providing a strong, stable replacement for the entire surface of the tooth. Crowns are made by creating a mold of the tooth that is to be covered, then using it to craft a custom-shaped substitute. The new crown is then cemented onto the root of the existing tooth or a metal implant.

Dr. Hannon is more than happy to fully explain the dental crown procedure to patients who believe they may benefit from having one placed. Please contact her office today if you would like to schedule an initial consultation.

Bleaching

Dr. Laura Hannon understands that improving stained, discolored, or dull teeth is one of the top dental concerns of many patients. While porcelain veneers and even crowns can be used to cover up stains and discoloration, teeth whitening may also be a wonderful way to improve the aesthetic appearance of your teeth. Dr. Hannon offers several bleaching options, including take-home teeth whitening and in-office whitening treatments. Take-home teeth whitening options usually require the use of a bleaching tray in conjunction with a bleaching agent (normally a gel). On the other hand, Dr. Hannon also offers in-office single tooth bleaching. Following a comprehensive initial consultation, Dr. Hannon can help you find the ideal whitening method for your unique needs and preferences.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays can act as excellent alternatives to traditional fillings or crowns when repairing damage to the surface of a tooth; they can even be used to replace older, damaged fillings. While inlays and onlays can be made from gold or composite resin, porcelain has become the most popular material due to its strength and versatile ability to match the natural color of the surrounding teeth.

Though inlays and onlays are made in the same way, they serve slightly different purposes. Inlays are used to fill in a cavity or cover a crack that has developed within a cusp of a tooth, while onlays are placed when damage or decay extends to one or more of the cusps. Both are made by sending a mold of the affected tooth to a dental lab to have a custom inlay or onlay created to exact specifications.

A private initial consultation with Dr. Laura Hannon can help you decide whether an onlay or inlay is the ideal procedure for your dental needs. Contact her office today if you would like to schedule a time to meet with Dr. Hannon personally and discuss your dental needs.
